I captured this image during a guided boat tour to Spirit Island on Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. As if photographing one of Canada’s most iconic landscapes wasn’t enough of a challenge, I somehow managed to lose the lens from my glasses while taking the shot.

Back in the lab, what began as a photograph became an experiment. Rather than chasing realism, I leaned into the feeling of the moment—reimagining the scene as an oil painting. Dramatic light, deep blues, layered mountain silhouettes, and the quiet isolation of the island were enhanced to create something that exists somewhere between memory and imagination.

The title, Lost & Found, nods to both the missing lens and the artwork that emerged from the process. The result sits between photography and fine art—a cinematic interpretation of Spirit Island inspired by one of the most unforgettable days of my journey through Jasper National Park.
